Seven Churches and Seven Messages

Jesus Christ instructs his servant John to:

“Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, Write in a book what you see, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.”

—Revelation 1:11, KJV

The Seven Churches of Revelation, also known as The Seven Churches of the Apocalypse and The Seven Churches of Asia (referring to the province of Asia, not the continent), are seven major churches of Early Christianity, as mentioned in the New Testament Book of Revelation.

All the sites are in modern-day Turkey. The seven churches are located in:

Ephesus - EFES
Smyrna - IZMIR
Pergamum - BERGAMA
Thyatria - AKHISAR
Sardis - SART
Philadelphia - ALASEHIR
Laodicea - DENIZLI


1st day:

Arrival to Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport, welcome by aQuasun staff, and transfer to Kusadasi for overnight. Accommodation: Kusadasi Daily KM: c.a 90 km

2nd day:

Today, we will start our day with Ephessus Ancient City which was the home of Temple Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the world. Celsus Library, Hadrian’s Temple, Ancient Theatre are also the parts of the city which will be visited. Also Ephesus remains a sacred site for Christians due to its association with several biblical figures, including St. Paul, St. John the Evangelist and the Virgin Mary. Virgin Mary House visited by Popes Paul VI and John Paul II, who confirmed its appropriateness as a place of pilgrimage and also Pope Benedict XVI celebrated mass here in 2006. 3rd day:

In the morning right after the breakfast we will depart for Izmir which is 5.000 years old, the second largest port and third largest city of Turkey with the purpose to visit The St. Polycarp Church, one of the seven churches of revelation and the oldest one in Izmir. Then climb up to Kadife Kale (Mount Pagos) It is located at about 2 kilometres away from the seashore and commands a general view of a large part of the urban area of Izmir. On top stands the impressive ruins of a castle and its walls, built by Lysimachos, a "successor" (diadochus) of Alexander the Great. Accommodation: Izmir Daily KM: c.a. 140 km

4th day:

4th day: Today’s programme is starting with the departure for Pergamum Ancient City that is one of the important capital city of ancient times which is composed three parts: the Acropolis, whose main function was social and cultural as much as it was sacred; the Lower City, realm of the lower classes; and the Asklepion, one of the earliest medical centers on record. The world's first psychiatric hospital Red Basilica. The massive structure was built in the early 2nd century (under Hadrian) as a temple to the popular Egyptian god Serapis, and then converted into a church by Apostle Johannes. Accommodation: Bergama Daily KM: c.a 110 km

5th day:

First stop today is Thyatira in Akhisar that became an early center of Christianity. The Apostle Paul visited the city on a number of occasions during his missionary travels. Lydia, the woman converted by St. Paul at Philippi, was from Thyatira. Then Sardis Ancient City was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Lydia and home King Croesus, famous for his wealth. Ancient Sardis had a very large and prosperous Jewish community, which produced the largest ancient synagogue outside of Palestine. Christianity arrived in the 1st century AD and Sardis was one of the Seven Churches of Revelation. The third stop today is Philadelphia, "city of brotherly love”. Right after Philadelphia we will drive through Pamukkale. Accommodation: Pamukkale Daily KM: c.a 320 km

6th day:

6th day: In the morning Laodicea ancient city that was founded by Seleucid King Antiochus II in honour of his wife Laodice will be visited. Laodicea became a prosperous Roman market town on the trade route from the East, famous for its woollen and cotton cloths. In the 4th century, Apollinaris of Laodicea proposed the theory later called Apollinarianism, which was considered heretical by the Catholic Church. Then we will drive to Pamukkale (means “cotton fortress” in Turkish) where the water dissolves pure white calcium and carry it to the surface and forms white calcium cascades frozen in stone called travertine. Hierapolis, which means sacred city, with its temples, Necropolis, St.Paulus Basilica and hot spring sacred pools inside. Accommodation: Antalya Daily KM: c.a 280 km
7th day:

The programme of the seven churches had already finished yesterday but if you are in Antalya and get very close to St.Nicholas Church containing his tomb we must visit Myra the city where St.Nicolas was born, became bishop and died. After that we will have a small boat trip to the island where Kekova ruins are. Accommodation: Antalya Daily KM: 380 km

8th day:

Transfer to the Airport Antalya or hotel
